The system of electric energy selling using
RFID SMART cards
System Operation
1. Identification of the card and meter
After the installation of the meter the subscriber must put the card that came with the meter at a distance of at least 5cm close to the meter. If the meter responds with five BEEPs (5 short tones), the operation of identification was successfully fulfilled. If the meter responds with one long BEEP (1 long tone) it means that either the card is invalid or it belongs to another meter.
In this case the following operations are performed:
- The meter number is recorded into the card
- The current meter registrations (or any service information) are recorded into the card
- The card number is recorded into the meter
2. Payment
After identifying of the CARD and the meter you can make payments for electricity in the payment acceptance office. Each ECR should obtain a secret PIN code from the system administrator in order to make payment transactions. At every transaction the ECR sends a data package to the SERVER including:
- The ECR No
- The meter No.
- The required limit of energy
This package is encrypted using AES128 code and PIN code. The server receives the package and checks its validity. Then it generates a reply containing the purchased limit of energy and a unique digital signature. The ECR records the following information into the CARD
- The ECR No
- The date and time of the payment
- The purchased KW*h
- The digital signature received from the server
3. Transfer of the payment to the meter
After the payment transaction was fulfilled put the CARD (that contains the amount of paid kW*h) at a distance of at least 5cm close to the meter for the balance replenishment. If the meter responds with three BEEPs (3 short tones) the operation was successfully fulfilled, the LCD display of the meter briefly shows the purchased (accumulated) number of kW*h. If the meter responds with one long BEEP (1 long tone) it means that either the card is invalid or it belongs to another meter. In this case the following operations are performed:
- The meter verifies the digital signature
- The meter reads the recorded number of kW*h from the CARD, and sets the number of purchased kW*h on the CARD to zero
- It reads the payment date and ECR No.
- It records the current meter registrations into the CARD (and other service information according to the program of the meter).
